Everything You Need

"His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness."
2 Peter 1:3

It is very rare in this life that we have absolutely everything we need to complete a task, fix a problem, or move forward with a project, but Peter is giving us perhaps the best encouragement we could ever hear.  There are so many times in life when we can begin to doubt ourselves or discount our abilities and talents.  In this passage Peter is trying to call believers to consider the election of their calling, in other words, he is exhorting Christians to bring to mind who they are in light of Jesus in their lives.  In this case, Peter specifically has in mind reminding and encouraging followers of Christ to understand that we have literally everything we need to live a godly life because of our knowledge of Christ.  What an incredible feeling this spiritual truth should give us!  For so many of us we can doubt who we are in Christ or if we are even changing, and what any of this means for our Christian action in our daily lives.  Having these sorts of doubts lends way to thinking where we tell ourselves there is no way we could ever have a godly life, it seems impossible.  These thoughts and feelings can lead way to confusion and despair.  If we take an honest look at this verse through the lens of our feelings, we can easily shed doubt on the fact that we have everything we need for a godly life, because we simply don't feel like we do a lot of the time.  More often, we feel like we don't measure up, and we seldom feel like we have every tool we need for a godly life, let alone are leading this type of life.  But, Peter desires to encourage believers that this is simply not true!  Because of the knowledge of Jesus Christ, because of who He is and what He has accomplished on the cross, we have access to EVERYTHING we need to lead a godly life; that's the truth!  Jesus' finished work on the cross is the reason for this confidence and the guidance of the Holy Spirit teaching us all things is the way we practically achieve a godly life in this very ungodly world.  Today don't let your feelings discredit the truth, that you have everything you need, right here right now, to lead a godly life.  The truth is Jesus died to offer justification for your sins, and was raised to offer you new life in Him.  Allow the Holy Spirit to guide you into the truth of Christ, and be encouraged, that despite how you may feel at times, God has offered you everything you need to be made more and more in the image of Christ.  Love you all!  Praying for you and yours!  Have a blessed day, it's your choice!
