Open your Eyes

"When the servant of the man of God got up and went out early the next morning, an army with horses and chariots surrounded the city.  'Oh no, my lord!  What shall we do?' the servant asked.... And Elisha prayed, 'Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.'  Then the Lord opened the servant's eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha."
2 Kings 6:15,17

How often do we hear that life is all about perspective?  We may think, 'if you can just see things the way I see them, then you would feel differently.'  In our world, and in our culture today, we feel so strongly about our perspective that we easily make it out to be the truth.  In our minds, the way we see things is the right way to interpret them.  We do this with conflicts, jobs and careers, finances, relationships, basically everything.  We see things the way we want to see them and base our decisions on that, as though it were always the truth.  But, the real truth is, the way we perceive is generally not the way things really are.  I'll say this again, because we need to humble ourselves and really hear this, 'the way we perceive the things in our lives to be is most often NOT the way things really are.'  In the scripture above the servant of the prophet Elisha is afraid, he is full of anxiety and worry because when we wakes up and goes out in the morning what he sees is an army waiting, ready to kill them.  Elisha tells him in verse 16, "Don't be afraid'... those who are with us are more than those who are with them" (2 Kings 6:16).  Don't be afraid!  If I'm the servant and all I see is a huge army ready to take us down, I'm going to naturally be afraid.  But, what Elisha had was faith, and because of his faith, he had access to the Truth.  Elisha prays that the Lord open up the servant's eyes, and when he opens them up, he sees the hills full of horses and chariots of fire.  He opens up his eyes to the Truth, that God's angelic force was there, and he had no reason to worry or be afraid.  He opened up his eyes and realized that God is bigger than the army he was so afraid of!  How many times in life do you go out every morning and face the army?  You go throughout your day dwelling on the worry, fear, and anxiety that the army is causing you.  What is your army?  What is that thing that is right there in the front of your mind that you build up?  What is that thing or person that you are so afraid of, that has all of your attention?  The thing that constantly drives you to worry, and leads you to feeling depressed, in despair, and just tired and drained?  Rather than dwell on the worry, fear, and anxiety, pray today that the Lord opens up your eyes.  Fix your eyes on the Lord, rather than your problems, and you will see that He is way bigger.  Today, don't be afraid, but rather, open your eyes to the Truth.  And the Truth is that God's perspective is the right way to view the problems.  He loves you, He cares about you, He wants to help you in your trial and circumstance, but you must fix your eyes on Him.  Today, pray and ask the Lord to show you that He is bigger than the army you build up in your head and expect an answer, in faith, that He will show you He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.  Expect that He will open your eyes to the Truth that He loves you more than you can imagine and He is here with you even if all you can see is the army.  Love you all!  Praying for you and yours today!  Have a blessed day, it's your choice!
