Find your Rest

"He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.  I will say to the Lord, My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust."                                                                          Psalm 91:1-2

A good question to ask yourself would be this: When those trials and difficult times in life happen, where or to whom do I turn to?  When we talk about what we "abide" in we are saying what is it that we remain stable in or fixed in, or yet another way to think about abiding, is what do we continue to turn to.  When we say we abide in something, we are saying we have a certain confidence in what we are turning to.  Abiding in something says that I have assurance in what I am turning to and I am expecting a consistent result.  This word "abide" is also translated to mean "rest".  Certainly if we abide in something, meaning we consistently turn to this something because we have confidence in the results we will receive, then we will most certainly find "rest" in what we are choosing to abide in.  The meaning of refuge is, a condition of being safe or sheltered from pursuit, danger, or trouble.  This is what the Lord is for those that abide in Him, and find rest in the Almighty!  So often, we find our rest in things of this world.  We choose what seems convenient to us to find rest from this life.  For those of us in recovery, we are prone to choosing the absolute worse things to abide in and turn to.  And this is the same for any sin.  When we search for solutions to our worldly sin problems in the same world where the original problem was manifested, we will never find the rest, refuge, and fortress that the psalmist is talking about.  A sin problem needs a heavenly solution.  The world will never give us the rest, safety, love, and shelter that our souls yearn for.  Jesus tells us, "Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls; for my yoke is easy, and my burden is light" (Matt. 11:29-30).  When the storms of life are raging find your shelter in the Lord.  When financial difficulties come, find your rest and peace in the Lord.  When your relationship with him or her is falling apart, find your rest in the Lord!  He tells us we can only find the rest we desire in Him, and it starts with our trust and faith that He has overcome this world, and therefore He is our refuge and strength!  Today, pray and thank the Lord that you can find rest in your circumstances in Him.  Ask Him to guide you through the storm, and to give you the strength and perseverance that comes from trusting Jesus.  It is through this perseverance that the peace, refuge, and will rest come!  Love you all!  Praying for you and yours!  Have a blessed day, it's your choice!
