"Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path."
Psalm 119:105
Over two thousand years ago in biblical times, using a lamp to light a path was a much different concept than how we would think of it now. Today we have flashlights and camping lanterns that can light up a very large area, providing an abundance of light. When this scripture was written, the lamps talked about here, would literally be enough light to guide our next step or two. That is all the amount of light these lamps projected. But knowing that, I think we have a little more insight as to how we are to walk in our faith following Christ. You know, we all have a tendency to rush, and want things now and fast. For those of us in recovery, once we get clean, we often feel rushed to get things and relationships back into our lives. It is unrealistic for us to think that after spending years in addiction, that just after a few months or a year or two that we can be back to the good life we had before addiction. The truth is, once we have Christ in our hearts, we become a new creation, there is no going back to the old way of doing things. Jesus calls us to a new life in following Him. And this is a life that we are to, "walk by faith, not by sight" (2 Cor. 5:7). The lamp that God's guidance provides is enough to show us the next step or two, and that's because we are to walk in it by faith. Not run, not sprint, we are to walk! Sometimes we need to slow down, and not get ahead of ourselves, when this happens we tend to take our will back, and things can and will start to go wrong. Then, comes frustration because things don't happen the way we want them to, then anger, fear, resentment, and the list goes on and on. But, we are called use patience and the guidance of the word of God. We are to follow Jesus in the next steps in our lives. Jesus tells us, "do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself; sufficient for the day is its own trouble" (Matt. 6:34). Today, slow down and evaluate the steps your are taking. Are they your will, or God's will? Are you rushing to make decisions, in order to make yourself feel good in achieving something, or are you striving to please the Lord? Pray and ask God to clearly show you the next step He wants you to take, and pray for the courage to take it no matter what it is. And remember to make steps that are for His glory, and for your joy! Love you all! Praying for you and yours! Have a blessed day, it's your choice!
