"Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men."
Colossians 3:23
I think somewhere down the line, our culture has a jacked up idea of how we are to work. A lot of youth have a sense of entitlement when it comes to the work place. And this sense of being owed something spews into every aspect of life. If you work only as if you are doing somebody a favor, the temptation for this attitude to fall into every aspect of our lives is overwhelming. Christians ought to be the best examples of workers in their fields, if we check our motivation. This scripture above says we should be working as if we are working for the Lord, not for men. How would you change your attitude at work if Jesus was your boss? If he was near you all day at work? Would you work a little harder? Be a little kinder and gentler to your coworkers? Do you think your attitude would change? So you know, Jesus is always there when we are working, the question is always, about whether or not we are currently acknowledging that. But, I want to take this a step further. The previous verse explains a bit more about what it is to "work heartily", it says, "bondservants, obey in everything those who are your earthly masters, not by way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord" (Col.3:22). The way we do our work should not be just to please others, we should want to do it with sincerity in our hearts, as if Jesus was our boss. I wonder what would happen if we all took this attitude into our workplace today, this week, this month? I wonder how the atmosphere of the job would change? I even more so wonder what would happen if we took this type of working for the Lord attitude into our relationships with people. What do you think would happen in your relationship with your spouse, brother, sister, parents, cousin, friends, coworkers, if you put in work in the relationship? If you were proactive in working hard in sowing friendships and relationships, I wonder how God would honor that diligent work. Today, evaluate the way you are working. Are you working as to the Lord in your job, relationships, finances, every aspect of your life? Pray and ask God to help mold your attitude to one that works as if He is your boss. And I bet you will be pleased with how He blesses that! Love you all! Praying for you and yours! Have a blessed day, it's your choice!
