I Can Overcome

"Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good."
Romans 12:21

If you take a moment and look around in our world, our nation, your state, your county, your town, it can be easy to be overcome by all the craziness going on in our world today.  There is so much strife in our towns with the current racial protest.  Many are also still in fear and plagued by anxiety by the COVID-19 virus.  Its seems like day by day, and at times, hour by hour we are being informed of the next troubling news story.  It can become so easy to look around our current state and be overcome and stricken by worry, fear, and anxiety because of all the evil that is going on in the world.  And to take things a step further, we need to remind ourselves that Satan uses every good thing for evil.  We don't even have to leave our homes to be reminded of the evil in the world, Satan has infiltrated our homes through the TV and especially our smart phones.  All we have to do is open up our 7x3 rectangle in our pocket and start scrolling and we can be overcome with anxiety and fear caused by the evil in the world.  But, the Holy Spirit, through Paul, offers us a simple solution when we are feeling overwhelmed and overtaken by the things of this world.  That simple solution?  Overcome it by doing good.  You ever wonder why helping someone else feels so good?  For those of us in recovery, getting a service position in our meetings and home groups is a very practical way that we can begin to overcome our addictions, by serving others.  By simply greeting  people at the door, setting up chairs for meetings, or making coffee, we begin to overcome the evil bondage of addiction, in such a simple way, as to do good things.  As you look around your community or scroll through a depressing newsfeed, pause and consider what good you can do.  What good can I offer in my church, neighborhood, or in my work office, that can serve to overcome the evil in this world.  This starts with us on a very personal level.  Each of us must wake up and make a decision each day to overcome the difficulties of this world by doing good and serving one another.  Galatians 6:10 tells us, "So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith."  Today reflect and consider what good you can be actively participating in that can serve to overcome the evil going on all around us.  Pray and ask the Lord to guide you by the Holy Spirit in a specific direction that you can serve others around you.  Wake up today and make a decision to do good and be part of overcoming the evil in the world.  God promises He will guide you and help you.  Remember it starts with you, and it starts with a choice! Love you all! Praying for you and yours today! Have a blessed day, it's your choice!
