Know Who You Are!

"But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light."
1 Peter 2:9

Peter is addressing Christians in a fallen and challenging world.  A world where the ways and norms of society go against everything that followers of Christ are to stand for.  The Christians that Peter is addressing are in exile and dispersed among the ancient world.  His purpose for writing is to encourage them, to edify and build them up, to help them remember who they are in Christ, and to give them words of instruction for godly living.  It is not much different in many aspects of our daily lives today.  One of the biggest things we struggle with in our culture is our identity.  We have everybody and everything sending us information as to who we ought to be.  We idolize the wrong things in society because of it.  We want to grow up to be a certain way, look a certain way, or have certain things because this is how we are taught to find our purpose and identities in this life.  We tend to look out at everybody else, on T.V., on social media, and in sports and entertainment to figure out who we are.  What defines you?  Who defines you?  What are you all about?  Peter is writing to bring to remembrance your identity in a fallen world.  You are CHOSEN.  You are a ROYAL PRIESTHOOD.  You are a HOLY NATION.  You are GOD'S POSSESSION.  Instead of looking out in every which way in the world today, (allowing our culture, our lusts, our pride), define who we are, let us look up to find our identity in Jesus.  Today remember who you are in Christ.  You are chosen, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, and a possession for God.  And because of His great love for you working in your life, He calls each one of us to proclaim His name, (our identity), because He has called us out of the darkness into His marvelous light.  Let us pray today and thank Him who has saved us and called us to a new, a greater, an eternal identity in Him!  Love you all!  Praying for you and yours!  Have a blessed day, it's your choice!
