Setting an Example

"Similarly, encourage the young men to be self-controlled.  In everything set them an example by doing what is good."
Titus 2:6-7

Setting an example by being a good role model is hard work.  This calls for patience, endurance, loving kindness, gentleness, and a spirit of truth and integrity.  Many of these qualities are those found in the fruit of the Spirit that Paul mentions in Galatians chapter five.  But, this is especially important now more than ever.  It is so important to be mindful of the example we are setting.  We all have a circle of influence.  These are people in your life that I will never have an opportunity to influence and vice versa.  Our circle of influence certainly includes our family, friends, and loved ones, but, this even extends further than that.  Whether we realize it or not, we have the ability and capability to influence those we work with, people we may see at the gym or store, or literally just about anyone we come in contact with.  Can you think of a time in your life where a perfect stranger did or said something, and you never forgot it?  In God's infinite wisdom, He places people in our lives, and at certain times to speak to us, mold us, and give us an example to strive for.  In the scripture above, Paul is encouraging Titus.  He is admonishing him to be a good role model for others.  By setting an example that is self-controlled, among many other godly attributes.  Because we have such a perfect Savior in Jesus Christ, we have a perfect example to model our behavior and lives after.  But to take that a step further, we all have people in our lives that God has put there to set an example of godly living.  We are reminded that, "in everything set them an example".  This is certainly a high calling, but this is what we should be striving for.  Attempting to set an example "in everything", calls for a high faith and reliance upon God, and the Holy Spirit.  This is a calling that forces us to rely on the Lord each day, and to take life a day at a time, sometimes a moment at a time, in order to put down the immediate desires of our flesh, and to keep in step with the Spirit.  This is a lifetime work, but this is what we are called to do.  Today, pray and ask the Lord to guide you in everything, so that you may be an example to those in your circle of influence.  You never know who is watching or listening, and how something you may do or say has the power to encourage someone today!  Love you all!  Praying for you and yours!  Have a blessed day, it's your choice!
