Spirit Lead Me!

"The heart of a man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps."

Proverbs 16:9

One of my mentors has a saying that comes to mind when I read this verse and it goes, "the one thing you can for sure plan on, is that plans will always change."  How often do we make plans of our own?  I would argue all the time.  We don't have to write down plans in order to do things we want, and that is essentially what making our own plans means.  Basically it is doing things our way.  We can set aside God and make plans of our own.  We can even achieve those plans and goals that we set for ourselves.  But, we won't experience the full joy of an abundant Spirit led life all on our own.  This scripture verse above reminds me that I can make plans all I want, but what is most important is to be led by the Spirit in all that I do.  Paul says, "If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit" (Gal. 5:25).  Do you want to know one key way you can tell if you are trying to do plans all on your own rather than being led by the Spirit?  How exhausted do you feel?  Are you feeling beat down?  Jesus says, "Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls; for my yoke is easy, and my burden is light" (Matt. 11:29-30).  When the Lord is establishing our steps and we are walking in them being led by the Spirit, the burden will be light.  We won't feel bogged down.  That is the way the world causes us to feel.  When we are following our own plans this is what tends to always happen.  Things don't go our way, so what do we do?  Try harder, and then that fails, and we try even harder.  This is how our culture works.  So then by the end of it all we have tried harder and harder, and continue to feel more and more discouraged, ultimately leading to despair.  The best way we can choose to live today is led by the Spirit.  God promises that this is where we will find rest, peace, and an abundant life!  What plans are you making in your life today?  Pray about them.  Ask the Lord to lead you by the Spirit to what He has in store for you.  Spend quiet time today with the Lord contemplating your steps, it is then that God promises to lead you by the Spirit.  Take time with God today to pray and consider your steps, He promises that His way is the good life!  Love you all!  Praying for you and yours!  Have a blessed day, it's your choice!
