Expect the Miracle!

"Then Joshua said to the people, 'Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you."
Joshua 3:5

So here's a little background to what is going on and what "wonders" this portion of scripture above is referencing.  Joshua has recently become the successor of Moses to lead the people of Israel to the promised land.  In the first chapter of the book of Joshua God commissions Joshua following Moses' death.  Joshua also begins immediately to take hold of this leadership position and starts commanding and leading the people, preparing them to enter the promised land.  In chapter two of the book Joshua continues his command and leadership by sending spies into the the promised land to scope out what they are looking at.  As we come to chapter three Joshua arises early in the morning, gives some directives about following the arch of the covenant, and then he says this verse above.  He commands the people to consecrate themselves, or perhaps, better put, to sanctify themselves.  Joshua tell the people to do this because he is confident in the next line of this verse.  The reason for the sanctifying is because he says, "the Lord will do wonders among you".  Joshua is so confident that the Lord was going to work miracles in their sight, that he tells the people to go ahead and prepare for it, by sanctifying yourselves, because he was so assured that the Lord was getting ready to work a miracle before them.  The miracle comes in verses 15 and 16.  As the people were getting ready to cross the Jordan and into the promised land the scripture reads, "and the feet of the priests bearing the ark were dipped in the brink of the water, and the waters coming down from above stood and rose up in a heap very far away.. and those waters flowing down toward the Salt Sea, were completely cut off."  The water that was flowing in the Jordan and to it, completely stopped and cut off as soon as the priests feet hit the bank of the water, so that the entire people could cross the Jordan and into the promised land!  This is the wonder in the verse above that Joshua subsequently told the people about the previous day, before this miracle happened!  The miracle was an amazing wonder to see for the people of Israel, but what is even more fascinating to me, is the faith that Joshua has.  Joshua said to the people, go ahead, expect a miracle, I know my God, and I know His power and might and love.  He had faith to call a miracle into existence because he fully believed in the power of the Lord.  Where does your faith stand today?  Are you expecting a miracle from God?  As a person in recovery, I view everyday I wake up healthy and sober as a wonder from the Lord.  Everyday my family and friends wake up is a miracle.  Everyday I have food, and time, and resources to serve the Lord, I am living in a miracle from God!  Do you see God working miracles and wonders in your life and the lives of those around you?  Today, pray and thank the Lord for the miracle of waking up to see another day.  Thank Him that His mercies are new everyday, and that you have another opportunity today to draw in a closer relationship with the Creator of the universe!  Look for your miracle today, and do so with a confident expectation!  Love you all!  Praying for you and yours!  Have a blessed day, it's your choice!
