Break the Cycle

"Like a dog that returns to his vomit is a fool who repeats his folly.  Do you see a man wise in his own eyes?  There is more hope for a fool than for him."
Proverbs 26:11-12

We live in such a self-sufficient, 'I can do it all myself' kind of society.  We tend to worship the 'self-made' stories in our culture.  But, how realistic is this?  Even every accomplished athlete or businessman you take notice of got help along the way.  It may seem like there is this lure of doing it all on your own, but really this is just deception.  You would be believing a lie.  This why this scripture tells us that if you fall into the deception that you know it all, can do it all by yourself, or as this Proverb puts it, "you are wise in your own eyes", then there is more hope for a fool than for you.  When we believe that we know it all, then the first part of this scripture happens in our lives.  Doing life all on our own, dealing with everything by ourselves, we will ultimately continue to repeat the same sins we are doing now.  This is why our Christian fellowship is so important.  If you are a person in recovery, you especially know what it means to "return to your vomit".  This the cycle of addiction, but it is the same for all sin.  In our minds we get deceived thinking that we are wise enough and smart enough to defeat sin all by ourselves.  We allow our pride, and our self-made thinking culture, fog our thinking from the truth.  That truth, is no matter what the sin, we will continue to repeat it, if we think 'we got this' all on our own.  This is why James 5:16, will tell us, "Confess your sins one to another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed."  You know why scripture tells us this in James?  Because we don't know it all!  We need each other to stop the cycle of sin that is destroying our lives and relationships.  You can continue to think you are wise and know best.  You can keep a solid case of the 'I got it's', if you want to.  But, just know, that when it comes to the sin in your life, addressing it in your wisdom by yourself, will lead you to a cycle of destruction, that is like a dog returning to it's vomit.  Humble yourself today!  It's okay to get help for what you are struggling with, in fact God designed us to have each other's help.  Don't believe the lie culture says, that you have to fix all your problems yourself.  This simply is prideful deception, that will surely lead to a cycle you don't want.  Today, know that the Lord doesn't want you to keep repeating the same sins, struggling with the same things.  Pray and ask God to lead you to godly people that you can share with, pray with, and ultimately heal with!  Love you all!  Praying for you and yours!  Have a blessed day, it's your choice!
