“I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I hope.”
Psalm 130:5
As
I was reading this verse this morning I was just thinking about how
wrong the world views waiting and hoping. If you think about the phrase
‘waiting on the Lord’, and you view this through the natural you would
think, ok so I wait, so I do nothing. The world views waiting as a
passive thing, that I just sit there and expect somebody else to do the
work. But, if any of you have ever worked as a waiter before you know
there is nothing passive about that job. In fact that may be one of the
hardest jobs out there. Think of waiting on the Lord like a server would
wait on you. Your job is to do everything possible to work to please
that other person with a hopeful expectation that you will be blessed at
the end. There is absolutely nothing still or passive about waiting on
the Lord either. As we wait on the Lord we are actively living lives of
passion and love. We live as seekers. When you seek something there is
way more to it than just looking. When you seek you are earnestly
searching for something. This is how we are to view waiting on God...
that we are active seekers in the meantime, seeking to love on and serve
others through the power of the Holy Spirit. And then, all the while,
we hope in His word. The world gets this one wrong to. We use hope as a
wish in our culture. We ‘hope’ we get that job, we aren’t really
expecting we will get it, we are just wishing it would happen. When we
hope in God there is an expectation that things will happen because of
who He is. The writer of Hebrews puts it, “we desire each one of you to
show the same earnestness to have the full assurance of hope until the
end” (Heb. 6:11). The writer of Hebrews knew that hoping in God’s word
meant we have full assurance that He is going to move in and through our
lives, and he stirs the readers on to hold on to that, or wait for that
hope until the very end. What are you hoping will happen in your life
today? As you consider that answer, think about does God hope for the
same thing in your life that you do? Are you aligning your Hope with
biblical hope? Are your hopes wishes rather than a full assurance that
God is working in your life? Are you actively waiting in the meantime?
We are to live a godly life trying to mold to the image of Christ as we
hope with full assurance for the abundant life He promises us! Consider
whether some of the things you hope for are maybe just wishes. Also,
consider if you are actively waiting on the Lord or just sitting there
waiting for something to happen. We are to “seek first the kingdom and
his righteousness” (Matt. 6:33), and as we do He promises to add good
things to our lives! I love you all! Be actively waiting today, seeking
God’s guidance in your life, while always confidently knowing He has a
good hope and future for you! Praying for you and yours! Have a blessed
day, it’s your choice!
